Lead Geotechnical Engineer for main contractor for portion of new High Speed Rail project. This contract includes the construction of 8 km of double-track tunnel as part of Taiwan's high-speed railway between Kaohsiung and Taipei. Responsible for all geotechnical matters on behalf of the contractor, and negotiations with the designers and owner. In charge of local geologists for geological monitoring and site investigations being completed as part of the JV's contract.

May 2000 to October 2000
Shimizu-Dillingham-Koh Brothers JV, North East Line Project, Singapore
Senior Geotechnical Engineer responsible for preparation of geotechnical reports relating to piling and tunnelling claims. Project includes 2.5 km long TBM-driven tunnels and large station excavation.

June 1997 to May 2000
Shimizu-Maeda-Bangun Cipta JO, Indonesia
Project Geotechnical Engineer for main contractor for Musi Hydroelectric Project, Indonesia. Includes 10 km of tunnels and underground powerhouse. Responsible for tunnel support control, instrumentation installation and monitoring, geological monitoring. Tasks included rock mass classification, rock support design, instrumentation and deformation analyses, insitu rock testing, and geological overbreak assessment. In control of staff of four in geological department at main project site.

Worked in coordination with Contracts Department to prepare documentation and make presentations to Owner in connection with geologically orientated claims.

May 1997 to June 1997
Bilfinger and Berger Ltd, Collector Tunnels, Kwai Chung to Stonecutters Island, Hong Kong
Analysis of tender documents and site inspections. Preparation of geotechnical interpretative reports and method statements to be included in contractor's tender bid.

Project included a 5 km long, 6 m diameter tunnel excavated by drilling and blasting through highly variable strata which included crystalline metamorphic rocks and residual soils. Responsible for supervising local geologists who collected data, maintaining geological records, and production of geological charts and drawings.

Supervised and recorded borehole investigations, exploratory probes ahead of the tunnel face, and seismic surveys along the tunnel line.

Organised programme of rock testing to correlate with results of seismic and borehole investigations.
During tunnel lining and grouting operations, worked as shift engineer supervising grout mixes in highly variable strata.

After completion of tunnel excavation, worked in contractor's commercial department advising quantity surveyors on geotechnical aspects relevant to contractual matters.
Completed geotechnical appraisal and site reconnaissance of proposed Broadlands Hydroelectric Project, Sri Lanka. Prepared report for Balfour Beatty's estimating department.
